Swords
A belly dance sword is a specialized sword - unless you're experienced, don't buy a sword that's not labelled as suitable for belly dancing. It probably won't balance properly.

Buying a Belly Dance Sword
When I bought my first sword, I learned a few valuable lessons about how to buy a belly dance balancing sword.
I love the fact that my sword is a beautiful shiny chrome and comes in its own red velvet scabbard (see photo on the right). It's a straight, fine blade which looks sharp, even though it isn't - when I dance solo, I receive lots of compliments on it, because audiences are convinced it's real.
What don't I love about it?
Well, chrome is slippery, which makes it harder to balance. The straight, fine blade means my sword looks under-sized on stage, compared to the scimitars used by other members of my troupe. And the scabbard is pretty useless (apart from looking good on my wall), because if you store a sword in its scabbard it will rust.
So, in summary, my tips on how to buy a belly dance sword would be:
- check to see what size and style of sword the rest of your troupe or class uses, so you don't look out of place.
- avoid chrome, because although it looks great, it is slippery.
- Don't be afraid of a big sword, because on stage it will look much smaller.

Hi,
I am looking for a blunt belly dance sword, or never been sharpened before sword. I’ve never worked with a sword before. I was wondering if one of your swords is like this.
Thank you,
Amy Moore
You’re so right Bek, the Zenptah swords are beautiful if you can afford them. Not all of us are ready to invest $200+ on a sword, though!
Amy, all swords made specially for belly dancing are blunt (or never sharpened).
