Harem Pants
Harem pants are unpopular with some belly dance teachers, perhaps because they're just too reminiscent of I Dream of Jeannie! However, though they're not always the most flattering of garments, they're more practical than a skirt for belly dance class. They're also useful under chiffon skirts if you want a floaty effect while preserving some modesty!

When Not to Wear Harem Pants
Harem pants are popular with belly dance students, because many people think they're more forgiving than a figure-hugging lycra bellydance skirt. Please, think again!
Most harem pants balloon out at thigh level. True, that means they don't cling to your cellulite - but if the fabric is opaque, it looks as though it's your own thighs that are ballooning, and if they're transparent, your lumps are clearly on display.
Also because they make your bottom half look wider, harem pants will make you look shorter. If you're already short, baggy pants will make you look as though you're standing in a hole!
Slimmer harem pants can look great under a long or short chiffon skirt . It's a good option if you're worried about the transparency of chiffon - the skirt flattens the upper part of the pants so you don't get that bulky look around the thighs, while the pants protect your modesty.
